our heritage
Camargue was co-founded by Mitch Marescia and Ken van Sweeden after they recognised a need in the market. Both have spent many years in the insurance industry.
Ken van Sweeden spent considerable time researching the issues surrounding corporate governance, which led to the development of several of Camargue's policies. Ken was responsible for new product development within Camargue, and managed all relationships with producers. He was involved with marketing existing products. His prime responsibility was that of underwriting any account business written, and he assisted parties with claims negotiations and settlements. He also undertook to seek and develop new partnerships.
In addition to serving as a Company Secretary, Mitch Marescia has also worked as an independent financial and management consultant, bringing valuable qualities to the Camargue partnership. Mitch is responsible for the financial management of Camargue, handling all operational aspects and providing the leadership role. He is also involved in new product and market development as well as marketing existing products. Mitch performs Financial Risk Surveys of prospective clients, and assists with underwriting. He is also responsible for seeking and developing new partnerships.
Origination of the Name
The company was named after that special breed of horse that survives the inhospitable Camargue wetlands in southern France. These horses embody the qualities characterised by Camargue's founders - fierce independence and courage in the face of adversity, perseverance, enduring determination, and sure-footedness in the midst of harsh realities.
Our Philosophy
Horses of the Camargue– Noble, strong, enduring, fiery, courageous, sure footed and independent – words used to describe this unique breed of horse – born and bred on the inhospitable wetlands of the Camargue in southern France.
Serving without servility, there is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent, nothing so quick and nothing more patient than this horse. As perennial as the seasons, this bold and independent horse has the strength and courage to carry a grown man safely over the most treacherous terrain. We believe that by adopting these characteristics as the cornerstone of our business, we will re-define the boundaries of risk management in the future. We aim to provide imaginative and comprehensive solutions to address the effects of the ever-changing exposures to financial risk.
